QESST Scholar Wins 38th IEEE PVSC Best Student Oral Presentation Award

Akhil Mehrotra, QESST Scholar from the University of Houston, was awarded the Best Student Oral Presentation Award at the 38th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (PVSC) award ceremony on Friday, June 8, 2012 in Austin, Texas.

Akhil’s winning oral was titled “Superior Radiation and Dislocation Tolerance of IMM Space Solar Cells.”  In the photo, Akhil accepts his award from Conference Chair BJ Stanbery.

Other QESST Scholars were finalists in their areas.  Gopi Vijaya (University of Houston) was among four finalists in Area 1: Fundamentals and New Concepts for Future Technologies  for his oral  “Multijunction Solar Cell with Dilute Nitride Cascaded Quantum Wells Design.”  Vivek Sharma (Arizona State University) was nominated for the best poster award in Area 9: PV Modules and Terrestrial Systems.  Vivek’s poster was titled “Peak Load Offset and the Effect of Dust Storms on 10 MWp Distributed Grid Tied Photovoltaic Systems Installed at Arizona State University.”  Judges based their nominations on the following four criteria: clarity of presentation, technical merit, impact and oral presentation.
